Smells nice, and effective, but be careful how you use it. Feb 11, 2011
By Chris L. First of all, the pink grapefruit scent is awesome.
And, used properly as an anti-acne cleanser, it works great. Used improperly, it can lead to dryness and increased breakouts.
Acne is caused by the bacteria that builds up when trapped oil and skin cells accumulate under clogged pores. To treat acne, you must clear those pores and eliminate bacteria. Salicylic acid-containing products slough off cells from the top layer of the skin, helping you keep your pores clear. With all those dead cells cleared away, however, you're also thinning out your body's natural barrier against bacteria.
The trick is, you need to wash away dirt and make use of the gentle exfoliation the salicylic acid allows, without taking so much off that you're weakening the skin's ability to protect. For my skin, one full pump is way too much, I use about a 1/3rd of a pump and dilute with some water before using.
You only get so far with just a cleanser. To really treat problem acne, you also need to treat bacteria using a benzoyl peroxide treatment, and protect everything with a moisturizer. As with salicylic acid, benzoyl peroxide if overused can irritate the skin causing more harm than good, so it should be applied sparingly. It helps to use a low-concentration formula like the 2.5% Neutrogena On-The-Spot Acne Treatment, Vanishing Formula, 0.75 Ounce (21 g). All that acid and peroxide on your skin is going to leave it vulnerable, so you should finish it all off with a protective moisturizer. The best will probably be a simple cream such as the Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream, Fragrance Free - 16 oz. You don't want all sorts of exotic ingredients that your skin might be allergic to, and medicated lotions are often overkill.
Lastly, don't touch your face and change the pillow covers regularly!

Same ingredients as MURAD & just as effective.... Aug 25, 2011

This has the same cleaning power as regular Neutrogena but with a much better smell. I noticed with the orange version that my skin had a medical smell to it. This grapefruit scent is more than acceptable and leaves my skin feeling clean and tight. It does a good job of removing make-up. The 2% salicylic acid is the same strength and cleans as well as Murad, but for far less cost. The other Murad substitute that NEutrogena has is the Rapid Clear 3-in-1 Acne Treatment, which is equivalent to Murad's 2% salicylic acid gel (but again at a much lower cost.) These two products used at night, combined with an SPF 30 moisturizer in the day, make my skin very clear. You have to just continue it even as the gel "boils" the acne to the surface at first. Once the skin is clear, if you continue to use these, then your skin will stay clear. Much less expensive than MURAD!

Great!! Jan 27, 2011
By smtailor Works great on my oily days, and my dry days. I have sensitive skin and this product doesn't bother it at all. I also love the smell!

I like it, but use it once per day. Aug 24, 2011
By Michelle B I've read other reviewers mention that this product is overly drying. I will say that I love the scent. And, I love the very clean feeling after using it. My pores feel tight after I use it. It's very refreshing. As a precaution, I do use it once per day or less, just because I am prone to dry skin. But, I think drying could be the case with any product with similar ingredients.

Not quite the old, but smells great! Dec 04, 2010
By Dan Willits With my greasy face, the original gold colored acne wash cut through the sludge with a single pump of soap. This new version requires 2 pumps, but smells 100x better. I think the better smell is worth the extra soap.
